On-island for annual Thanksgiving visit, VP spotted often around town

(Dec. 30, 2009) Vice President Joe Biden and his family returned to Nantucket for their 33rd island Thanksgiving this year, this time arriving on Air Force Two rather than the Hy-Line fast ferry from Hyannis.

For the week leading up to Biden’s arrival, airport manager Al Peterson said the government flew C-17 cargo planes into Nantucket Memorial Airport to deliver specialized vehicles for Biden’s motorcade and other support equipment. Air Force Two, the U.S. gov ernment’s modified Boeing 757, dwarfed the smaller aircraft on the tarmac when it touched down in an envelope of fog at Nantucket Memorial Airport the day before Thanksgiving.
