Disappearance of downtown icon Sports Locker just one of many changes |
(Dec. 30, 2009) Storefronts changing with each season are nothing new on Nantucket, but rarely does a downtown icon disappear. That happened in 2009, with the announcement by Marine Home Center that it had decided to close the popular Sports Locker at the bottom of Main Street.
Change also came to those who stayed downtown. Mitchell’s Book Corner, a Main Street institution for more than 40 years, reopened after a seven-month renovation project, the work done almost entirely with green, sustainable and recycled materials.
