Budget challenges, staffing changes make for rough sailing at public schools

(Dec. 30, 2009) The Nantucket Public Schools experienced exceptional change in 2009, as staff and administration were forced to adapt to bold new governance strategies while applying novel learning models amidst volatile staffing turnover.

The elementary school, in state-mandated corrective action after four years of unsatisfactory standardized-test scores, opted for a principal triumvirate headed by Joe Aguiar, 72, a veteran Ohio schools superintendent with three decades of experience.
