A coaching legend retires, records set in 2009

(Dec. 30, 2009) High school football coaching legend Vito Capizzo headlined the sports pages this year, calling it quits on a career that spanned five decades, generations of islanders and tremendous accomplishments.
In other news, the long-standing Island Cup rivalry football game against Martha’s Vineyard was left off the schedule this season due to budget concerns and lack of communication, and caused quite an uproar. But at the newly-named Vito Capizzo Stadium at Burnham Dell Jr. Field this fall, a new era of Whaler Pride began under first-year head coach John Aloisi.
